5/17/26 Sitting Idol

This weeks message, “Sitting Idol”, jumps into the real issues of idols and idolatry. The Lord says this to Ezekiel of some elders of Israel in chapter 14:3 of Ezekiel. “Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts and have put in front of their faces the stumbling block of their wrongdoing. Here is a group of wise leaders who the Lord says have idols right in front of their faces, and don’t even see that it is idolatry. It is because they have created the idols themselves in their own hearts. The Hebrew word used for idol means ‘image’. That word is built from another word that means to ‘carve’ or ‘form’. When we are separate from the Lord, we take information and knowledge and emotions, and carve or shape our own idols. Something that we can come into agreement with ourselves that is easier to put faith, trust, and hope in. However, Dueteronomy lists the first of the 10 commandments as “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” In another place it adds, “you shall make no idols”. Idols are something that begins in our own wants, needs, and desires. However, to love the Lord God with ALL you heart soul and mind, is to leave your desires, and how you would see them accomplished, and learn the heart of God and His desires, so that all your faith, hope, and trust, will be turned to Him. He alone is your provider, and supplier of all He has for you. Consider yourself. Do you have ‘Sitting idols’ in your life? All of us do at some point. If you don’t know, ask the Lord to speak to you and show you what they are. If your like me..they are right in front of our faces.
